Life in Syracuse


Local Attractions
  • Armory Square not only offers a variety of restaurants and shops, it is also a hot spot for outdoor concerts and festivals. Located only 10 minutes from the SU campus, Armory Square is home to the Syracuse Winterfest, various cultural festivals, and musical entertainment from many popular bands.

  • The Everson Museum of Art is located in downtown Syracuse at Armory Square. The building, designed by renowned architect I.M. Pei., attracts visitors from around the world. With over 11,000 pieces of art, traveling exhibits, and different events, the Everson is a fun place to visit on a quiet weekend with friends.

  • The Carousel Center Mall, located only minutes away from SU, is a great place to shop, eat, catch a movie, and meet with friends. The mall is easily accessible from routes I-81 and I-90 and is located next to the Syracuse Amtrack station. Buses also run daily from the University to the mall. Regal Cinema 17 is located on the upper level of the shopping complex, and includes multiple theaters allowing for a variety of movies to be shown at any given time.

  • The Rosamond Gifford Zoo at Burnet Park is located 10 minutes from the SU campus and is a great place to go to see some exotic wildlife in Central New York. The zoo offers a variety of animals along with special events held throughout the year.  

  • The OnCenter provides an arena for concerts, conferences, and cultural events. Recently, the OnCenter was the site for concerts by Nick Lachey and John Mayer, and performances by The Blue Man Group and WWE.

It is also close to many famous tourist spots.

  • The New York State Fair – 20 min
  • Finger Lakes including outdoor activities and wineries – 45 minutes to 1.5hrs
  • The Baseball Hall of Fame – Cooperstown, NY – 2hrs
  • Niagara Falls – 3hrs

Syracuse Sports


Syracuse Crunch – Syracuse has its very own minor league hockey team, the Syracuse Crunch. The team plays at the War Memorial at the OnCenter in downtown Syracuse. Tickets start as low as $12.

Syracuse Chiefs – Syracuse has its very own minor league baseball team, the Syracuse Chiefs. The team plays at Alliance Bank Stadium located a short driving distance from SU. Games are held throughout the baseball season with featured promotional events such fireworks night taking place throughout the summer.
