Whitman Update
The Whitman School of Management is listed as one of the best business schools in the nation by The Princeton Review in their 2010 “Best 301 Business Schools.” The schools are unranked and were complied from a survey of 19,000 students attending business schools nationwide. Whitman was characterized as having a friendly and caring environment, offering a variety of extra-curricular experiences, and hosting many guest speakers with whom the Whitman students can network.

iMS in Accounting
The iMS in Accounting is the Whitman School’s limited-residency distance learning program for accounting professionals. The iMS program features the same curriculum and faculty as the full-time MS in Accounting program at Whitman and the degree awarded is the same. Prospective students must possess a qualified undergraduate degree in accounting.

The accounting profession offers tremendous career opportunities today—in public, corporate, and not-for-profit sectors. In most states, becoming a CPA involves earning a total of 150 credit hours of collegiate training–30 hours beyond the typical undergraduate program. This requirement is already in effect in most states, and will become effective in New York in 2009.

SU Athletics
Men’s Football: Syracuse 3-5. Most recent loss 37-10 to 14 ranked Pittsburgh.
Women’s Field Hockey (17-2): They started the Big East Tournament on Nov. 7 vs. Providence College.
Men’s Basketball: Syracuse is predicted to finish sixth in the Big East. Hopefully we’ll finish first! The season has just started, with the 'Cuse currently 2-0, with a tough game coming up against #12 Cal on Nov. 19.

Mentoring Program
The program was created in order to provide current Whitman students with a contact in the accounting industry, who can be used as a mentor for career preparation in the accounting industry. Examples of discussion topics include: advice on different careers in accounting, tips on obtaining internships/jobs, or advice on working after college in general. This relationship should not be used to solicit employment from the mentor, unless the mentor initiates the discussion.

For more information about the mentoring program, contact Lara Jeremko or Cheryl Curri.

Tracy Halpin Memorial Fund
Beta Alpha Psi held the second annual Tracy Halpin Memorial 5K Run on April 25th and it was a great success. The 3.2-mile USA Track and Field Certified course started at Henry Street, looped through the SU campus, and ended west of the Dome. Be on the look-out for information on the third annual event this upcoming Spring.

Tracy Halpin was an honor student in the Whitman School who died unexpectedly in January 2006. She had just finished her tenure as president of Beta Alpha Psi and had plans to accept a job offer from PricewaterhouseCoopers in Rochester after she graduated with honors in May 2006.

Every year, Beta Alpha Psi holds the 5K run in her memory. Proceeds from the run go to the Tracy Halpin Fund, which supports an annual award to an outstanding Beta Alpha Psi student that shares Tracy’s leadership qualities.
Beta Alpha Psi has set up a memorial fund in memory of Tracy Haplin, the SU accounting/finance student.

Contributions in Tracy’s name are being accepted by the
Beta Alpha Psi Honor Society
