Student Activities

The Financial Management Association
The Financial Management Association is open to students across the Syracuse University campus who have a general interest in finance. The club broadens this common interest and helps develop the financial practice, knowledge, and expertise of its members.

Financial Planning Club
Currently in its nascent stage, the Financial Planning Club will bring together students from across disciplines who are interested in learning more about financial planning. The club seeks to attract speakers of national prominence who will inspire students as representatives of successful professionals with educations and careers in financial planning.

Real Estate Club
The Real Estate Club at the Whitman School of Management at Syracuse University was established to provide a forum for students that are interested in real estate and to learn more about the industry. As the fastest growing club in Whitman, the real estate club was developed in collaboration with the Whitman Kuhn Real Estate Center. The areas of real estate that are covered by guest speakers and site visits include: architecture, construction, development, finance, law, management, and sales.

The Student Investment Club
In today’s conversant markets, experiential learning through organized models is of paramount importance for student growth and success in financial services. With unambiguous recognition of this need, the Ballentine Investment Institute helped form the Syracuse University Investment Club. Students from across campus gain firsthand experience in portfolio management as members of the Investment Club. The Ballentine Investment Institute is committed to support the club’s efforts in a number of ways, including organizing special seminars, events, and field trips. Often the corporate representatives of these events are involved in the evaluation of student projects.

The Orange Value Fund
In Spring 2006, the Whitman School of Management and the Ballentine Investment Institute at Syracuse University announced the creation of a student-run fund: The Orange Value Fund. Whitman students, together with the fund’s board of directors, make investment decisions using real money. At the time of the announcement, commitments from a variety of investors started the fund at $1.1 million. The Orange Value Fund provides a stimulating learning experience to the students as they learn to perform research on potential investments, submit research reports, and make investment recommendations.

Stuart Frankel & Company NYSE Scholars Program
Each spring, select top Whitman finance students (undergraduate and graduate) compete for the chance to spend three intense days in New York City with alumnus Stuart Frankel, founder and CEO of Stuart Frankel & Company. The trip gives students a highly personal, insider’s view of operations and transactions at the New York Stock Exchange, in sessions that typically include investment bankers, pension fund managers, hedge fund managers, traders, specialists, and analysts.
