Partnership

A Partnership Between the Whitman Career Center and Whitman Students
The Whitman Career Center team works diligently to provide programming and resources that support the long-term career interests of our students. Through partnering with students and employers, the best matches occur, thereby increasing the probability of a positive outcome for both parties. In a partnership, both sides must be actively engaged in taking actions that support the long-term goals.

A student’s responsibility to the partnership

  • Proudly represent the school at every opportunity: The actions of all members of the Whitman community impact the school’s reputation, which drives the career center’s ability to bring recruiters to campus. Students must present themselves in a professional manner with faculty, alumni, and recruiters at all times.
  • Take responsibility and action for your career search: Your destiny is in your hands. The Whitman Career Center offers resources and services to assist students in career search efforts, and student engagement in the process will support long-term success.
  • Be truthful in providing accurate information to the school and future employers: Corporations will proceed with background checks prior to finalizing job offers; therefore through all steps of the process students should provide accurate data and information. Additionally, students may be asked to complete drug testing as part of the employment on-boarding process.
  • Meet all deadlines for career services events and activities: Students are busy with deadlines for classes, and may become distracted with other requirements outside of the classroom. The Whitman Career Center sets deadlines based on the demands of recruiters; to ensure student credentials are considered for employment, we must adhere to those requests. We ask students to pay close attention to career center communication and emails.
  • Attend career/professional development programming to develop a competitive edge in the job market: The career and professional development programming offered to graduate students supports your ability to be a poised and articulate candidate.
  • Abide by all commitments made to employers

The Whitman Career Center’s responsibility to the partnership

  • Develop policies that are fair and equitable to all students and also meet the needs of employers: The Whitman Career Center evaluates its policies and services on an annual basis, and benchmarks with other nationally ranked business schools and corporations.
  • Identify and provide employment opportunities for the benefit of the Whitman community: The Whitman Career Center uses a three-prong approach to securing and nurturing relationships with corporate recruiters. The team uses direct mailing campaigns, telephone solicitation, and personal visits to build interest in recruiting business students from the Whitman School of Management.
  • Use technology to provide efficient services for the benefit of all constituents: The Whitman Career Center and Syracuse University financially support a grouping of databases for use in career search efforts.
  • Provide comprehensive career/professional development programming to give students a competitive edge in the marketplace.

We look forward to partnering with you.
