Concentrations

  • Accounting

The accounting concentration prepares students for professional roles in financial or managerial accounting. Beyond the accounting requirements, students may take elective courses in any area of management, but courses in management information systems and financial management are particularly appropriate for those interested in careers in corporate accounting.

  • Entrepreneurship

The concentration in entrepreneurship will cover areas including startups, joint ventures, venture capital, and creating and disseminating innovative products and services.  The program has three key components:  the core required course, two electives, and the global entrepreneurship capstone experience required of all MBA students. Multiple opportunities are available for experiential learning.

  • Finance

The finance concentration in the MBA program covers four finance areas:  investments, corporate finance, international finance, and financial institutions and markets.  The concentration focuses on finance theories and applications to deal with financial decision making in a firm.

  • Marketing Management

The marketing concentration curriculum prepares students for a variety of marketing management positions in organizations which emphasize careers in new product and brand management, entrepreneurial ventures, technology management, supply chain management, account management in advertising, market research, consulting or logistics and transportation management.  Non-marketing majors have found that marketing courses are valuable supplements to other concentrations.

  • Supply Chain Management

Supply Chain Management courses are drawn from a number of existing, strong programs (most notably Transportation and Distribution Management, Operations Management, and others).  Supply Chain (sometimes called demand chain or value chain management) prepares you for management positions in third party logistics organizations as well as consumer and business to business manufacturers and consulting.

Dual Degrees

There are limitless possibilities to combine the full-Time MBA with a graduate degree in another Syracuse University school or college. The following combinations have been most popular in recent years: MBA/MS, S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications; MBA/MPA, Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Affairs; MBA/MS, L.C. Smith College of Engineering and Computer Science; MBA/JD, College of Law; and MBA/MS, SUNY College of Environmental Science and Forestry.

 Certificate Programs

Whitman is home to the new Certificate of Advanced Study in Sustainable Enterprise (CASSE), open to students from a range of disciplines. The certificate is an outcome of unique collaboration to provide curricula, outreach, and research on sustainable enterprise with the Whitman School, SUNY-ESF, SU's L.C. Smith College of Engineering, and the Syracuse Center of Excellence.

Accelerated Program
Students with four or more years of full-time work experience and an undergraduate degree in business from an AACSB International-accredited institution are eligible for Whitman’s one-year accelerated MBA program. This 36-credit program is available only on a full-time basis with 15 credits taken both in the fall and spring semesters and the final six credits taken during the summer semester.

Students usually conduct a full-time job search as soon as they begin the program to facilitate starting a new position upon graduation. An internship may also be worked into the accelerated MBA program but will vary the length of the program.
