Professional Development
The Whitman MBA program transforms students into tomorrow’s business leaders. Prior to arrival on campus, students take part in a series of onboarding assignments to begin their professional and career development. Some of these assignments include opportunities to network with other industry professionals, plan for the summer internship search, and target areas for professional development.
On campus, the Whitman MBA program, through its rigorous experiential curriculum and in collaboration with Whitman’s Career Center, provides interactive and participatory leadership development seminars as well as individualized coaching to enhance MBA students’ professional skills, introduce and incorporate appropriate behaviors related to growth and success, and give Whitman MBA students a competitive edge in the marketplace.
Topics covered during the Fall 2009 semester include:
- Learning the Seven Habits of Highly Effective People
- Building Effective Communications Skills for Interviewing
- Going from Good to Great I & II
- Working a Career Fair
- Mapping Individual Development Plans
- Developing Managerial Skills
Community engagement is a core value of the Whitman School. For Whitman students, earning an MBA is about more than taking finance and marketing classes. It's about displaying leadership in the community and helping other people. The following is a sampling of organizations with which MBA students volunteered on an individual and/or group level.
- Chadwick Residence
- March of Dimes
- Meals on Wheels
- Ronald McDonald House
- Sainte Marie Among the Iroquois
- Susan G. Komen for the Cure
