Yu Liu chose to earn her MBA in finance at the Whitman School for the experiential learning, the great networking capabilities, a chance to study abroad, and a well-rounded education in business administration.
Originally from Chengdu, China, Yu was chosen for the Advanced Individual of Student Volunteers at Social Practice Award in 2005, and the Outstanding Individual in Earthquake Relief Work Award in 2008 for her commendable volunteer work in China. She served on the Sichuan Committee of China Zhi Gong Party where she created study plans for local teachers of Chengdu, China, trained them, and evaluated the results of the program.
As a member of the Young Volunteers Association in Chengdu, Yu taught Chinese and math to elementary school children, as well as organized a donation of money and clothes to people who suffered during the May 12th earthquake. Currently, Yu is a member of Students in Free Enterprise (SIFE) at Whitman, as well as the Whitman Consulting Club, and is in the process of founding an International Students Association at Whitman.
“This student organization will focus on the unique needs and interests of international business students,” Yu says. “It will strive to promote interest in both the domestic and international business environment.”
