Degree Requirements Checksheet for Transfer Students

Intra-University Transfer into Whitman
Transferring into the Whitman School from another school at Syracuse University
  • You must have a minimum 3.3 cumulative GPA and 24 credit hours completed at Syracuse University
  • Two of the following courses, or their equivalents, must be completed before transferring to Whitman: MAT 183, MAT 284, ECN 203, and MAT 221.
  • Those who meet the requirements are considered for admission depending on available openings
  • Transfer credits from another university or college that do not fulfill management requirements will be removed from your academic record upon acceptance through an intra-university transfer into the Whitman School
  • To change from a single to dual enrollment or vice versa, use the intra-university transfer process and contact your current college undergraduate office for additional details on dual enrollment.

Intra-University Transfer Process

  1. Sign up for and attend a Whitman Information Session for Intra-University Transfer Students and receive a Whitman application packet. You will need to bring this packet anytime you meet with someone in the Whitman Undergraduate Office.
  2. Make an appointment with one of the academic advisors in the Undergraduate Academic Advising and Counseling Office (Suite 215) to determine if you are currently eligible to apply for a transfer into the Whitman School.
  3. If you do not yet meet the transfer requirements, you should meet with an academic advisor in your current school or college to discuss future plans and construct a schedule of classes to fulfill both sets of requirements.
  4. If you meet the criteria after the current semester, you may initiate the transfer process by completing the Intra-University Transfer application.
  5. Make sure your permanent address, phone number, and email are updated on MySlice. Notification of acceptance will be sent by mail.

Intra-University Transfer out of Whitman
Transferring out of the Whitman School to another college at Syracuse University
Students enrolled in the Whitman School (including dual majors) wishing to change their program of study to a school outside of Whitman must complete an Undergraduate Intra-University Transfer form found in the Whitman Undergraduate Office, Suite 215. Intra-university transfer criteria for each of the schools and colleges are listed in the Syracuse University Bulletin in the Academic Rules and Regulations section. You must receive approval from the college you are transferring into before officially transferring out of the Whitman School.

Transfer Students from Other Colleges or Universities
Transferring into the Whitman School from another college or university outside of Syracuse University
Each semester, the Whitman School of Management welcomes students transferring to Syracuse University from other colleges and universities in the United States and abroad. Academic policies for these transfer students are:

  • A maximum of 66 credits can be transferred from a two-year program
  • A maximum of 90 credits can be transferred from a four-year program
  • Thirty credit hours and 50 percent of management courses must be completed at Syracuse University to receive an SU degree
  • To be considered for commencement honors (a degree cum laude, magna cum laude, or summa cum laude), you must complete a minimum of 60 credit hours at SU
  • Courses in which a student received a letter grade of “C-” or below will not transfer into SU
  • Students begin with a new GPA once they transfer to SU--credits from an outside institution will transfer but grades will not
  • Only courses that will count toward graduation credit will be transferred into the Whitman program
  • Students planning on taking additional courses in their home school before transferring to Whitman should consult Dawn Kline at (315) 443-2361 or dkline@syr.edu to ensure all credits will transfer.
