As more than 1 million servicemen and women prepare to return home from the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan over the next five years, the Interagency Task Force on Veterans Small Business Development, created by President Obama, has issued a report to the president that cites 18 recommendations with significant potential to help these returning veterans translate leadership, skills and experiences gained during service into strong, job-generating businesses post-service.

11.15.2011 EBV-Families takes place Nov. 13-20 during National Military Family Month

In concert with National Military Family Month, the Entrepreneurship Bootcamp for Veterans’ Families (EBV-F) has welcomed 17 participants to the second annual program on the Syracuse University campus. The program began Sunday, Nov. 13, and runs through Sunday, Nov. 20. The EBV-F provides a vocational and economic path forward for military family members who now find themselves caregivers to a wounded warrior, and surviving spouses of servicemen and women who gave their lives in service to our nation.

Sixteen women and one man, all military family members and/or spouses of veterans representing all branches of the armed forces, are taking part in the EBV-F. The eight-day residency includes exposure through course work, lectures and keynote speakers to accomplished entrepreneurs, academics, disability experts and business leaders from across the country. The EBV-F experience is intense; a typical day for participants in the program begins at 7:30 a.m. and ends at 10 p.m.

Fortune mentioned the $1 million donation from Walmart to the Entrepreneurship Bootcamp for Veterans with Disabilities (founded at the Whitman School and operated by SU's Institute for Veterans and Military Families)  for efforts of job creation and preparation for veterans.

11.10.2011 EBV program expands to Cornell University School of Hotel Administration

The Entrepreneurship Bootcamp for Veterans with Disabilities (EBV), an education and training program founded in 2007 at the Whitman School and operated by Syracuse University’sInstitute for Veterans and Military Families (IVMF), has announced its expansion to theCornell University School of Hotel Administration. Through its alliance with the School of Hotel Administration, the Culinary Institute of America will also be a part of the EBV training program.

By the end of 2011, 450 veterans from across the nation will graduate from the EBV, which has spurred the creation of more than 200 new veteran-owned businesses. The EBV program offers cutting edge, experiential training in entrepreneurship and small business management to post-9/11 soldiers, sailors, airmen and Marines disabled as a result of their service.

The EBV is offered through a national consortium of world-class schools that includes the Whitman School of Management at SU, the College of Business at The Florida State University, the Anderson School of Management at UCLA, the Mays School of Business at Texas A&M University, the Krannert School at Purdue University, ...
