The Whitman School welcomes Scott Fay, assistant professor of marketing, to the Department of Marketing. Fay joins Whitman from the University of Florida. An expert in probabilistic selling, price competition, reverse auctions, e-commerce, the economics of information and industrial organization, and retail strategy, Fay earned his PhD at the University of Michigan. Whitman also welcomes Joanne M. Lenweaver as the new director of the Women Igniting the Spirit of Entrepreneurship (WISE) Business Center, located in the South Side Innovation center. The Undergraduate Programs Office has a new student advisor--Lindsay Rapp joined Whitman on Jan. 5. Lena Blomkvist is the new part-time communications assistant, working in Suite 111. Welcome to all.

Douglas T. Tabachnik ’80 JD/MBA was recently named to the 2009 list of Super Lawyers® for New Jersey by Key Professional Media, Inc., for the second year in a row. Tabachnik has been included in the Martindale Hubbell Bar Register of Pre-eminent Lawyers™ for the past eight years.

Joseph C. Eppolito ’82 MBA was recently named managing associate for the Central NY Agency of Mass Mutual Financial Group located in downtown Syracuse, N.Y. Eppolito has been in the field of financial services for over 18 years.

Gregory M. Milonovich ’94 (ENG), ’96 MBA is a supervisory special agent/instructor in the training division of the FBI Academy’s Leadership Development Institute in Quantico, Virginia. He is also an adjunct professor (via the University of Virginia) for the undergraduate and graduate leadership courses the FBI offers to senior and mid-level law enforcement officers as part of their National Academy.

Brian Agnew ’07 MBA is the director of development for the faculty of Arts and Science at Rutgers University. He has also began a PhD program in Fall 2008 focusing on organizational change and leadership in the School of Communication, Information and Library Science at Rutgers.

Syracuse Community Test Kitchen Helps Launch New Food Products

 
   

The Syracuse Community Test Kitchen (COMTEK) at the South Side Innovation Center has helped four clients achieve their dreams of scaling up their favorite recipes. All four clients have gone on to scale up their favorite family recipes or interesting food ideas for sale in local markets. Look for Eckels Baked Goods, Curlylocks Pepper Jelly, Promise Me Chocolate and artisan Tyrolean Cookies at a boutique grocer near you. Whitman faculty have been highlighted for their expert business perspectives recently in several notable national news outlets, including: Tridib Mazumdar, the Gendal Professor of Marketing, was featured in an Associated Press article on the future of direct-selling giant Amway; Mitch Franklin, assistant professor of accounting practice, was quoted in an Associated Press article on financial tips for 2009; Boyce Watkins, assistant professor of finance, was interviewed by National Public Radio about the Madoff scandal; and CNNMoney.com quoted Mike Haynie, assistant professor of entrepreneurship, about credit cards and small businesses.
