Sixth Annual Whitman Day, April 7

 
     

The Whitman School will celebrate the sixth annual Whitman Day, a commemoration of the naming of the school, on April 7th with a keynote address by Daniel D’Aniello ’68 BS, founding partner and managing director of The Carlyle Group. Mr. D’Aniello will speak on “The New World Order and Its Implications for Private Equity” at 11 a.m. in the Lender Auditorium. Mr. D’Aniello is also the recipient of the 2009 Martin J. Whitman Distinguished Service Award.

Immediately followingMr. D’Aniello’s lecture, Martin J. Whitman '49 BS, founder and co-chief investment officer of Third Avenue, and Fernando Diz, the Whitman Associate Professor of Finance, will sign copies of their new book, Distress Investing. This groundbreaking book analyzes distress situations such as pricing issues, arbitrage opportunities, tax disadvantages, and the reorganization of funding plans, using case studies of some of the biggest situation. Published by Wiley, Distress Investing is sold at book stores and on Amazon.com.

The Whitman School is proud to announce that Dean Melvin T. Stith ’76 MBA ’78PhD has been named as one of the 2009 Distinguished Alumni by the National Association for Equal Opportunity in Education (NAFEO). Nominated by his alma mater, Norfolk State University, Stith is recognized for excellence and altruism in his profession and community and for his continued support for Norfolk State.

Stith will be honored along with other awardees during the 40th Anniversary Distinguished Alumni Awards celebration on April 4 in Atlanta, Georgia. The celebration will be the highlight of the National Dialogue on Blacks in Higher Education.

Whitman Hosts Supply Chain Symposium, April 22

 
   

The Council for Supply Chain Management Professionals (CSCMP) and the Whitman School will hold the 3rd Annual Supply Chain Symposium on April 22 at SU’s Lubin House in Manhattan. Titled “Collaboration–Building the Future in Supply Chain Together,” the symposium starts at 11:30 a.m. and will feature keynote addresses by Quentin Roach, senior vice president and chief procurement officer at Bristol Myers Squibb, and Rick Blasgen, president of CSCMP. Upcoming Whitman Alumni Events

 
     

Mark your calendars! Whitman Alumni Clubs are holding some upcoming events that might be of interest to you: The New York City Whitman Alumni Club is planning a golfing event on April 20 at the Chelsea Piers Golf Club at 6 p.m. The cost is $35 for alumni club members and $40 for non-club members. The Central New York Whitman Alumni Club is holding its semi-annual meeting at the Sheraton University Hotel on April 22 starting at 5:30 p.m. Guest speaker at the meeting will be Doug Marrone, the head coach of the SU men’s football team. The CNY Whitman Alumni Club is also hosting the 19th Annual Golf Tournament on June 5 at Lake Shore Yacht & Country Club in Cicero, N.Y.
