Outstanding Whitman Students

Whitman School students continue to excel. Recently, a student team, BSApp, advanced to the second round in the University of Nebraska’s 21st Annual New Ventures World Competition, where they presented their business plan along with 11 other undergraduate teams from around the world. Team BSApp is made up of Whitman students Greg Ackerman, Rachel Baumann, Michelle Caruso, and Jaclyn Casavant. Their business idea is to create a service that coordinates, facilitates, and enhances the graduate management admissions process by offering a one-stop online location for submitting applications. Additionally, on March 6-9, 2008, four Whitman students and members of Syracuse University’s Students in Free Enterprise (SIFE) ventured to University of Arizona to compete in the “Duel in The Desert” financial case study competition and won first place. During the competition, the SU-SIFE team dueled against 16 regional-champion teams from across the country for $19,000 of prize money. The SU-SIFE team members are seniors Lauren Echavarria and April Hace, and sophomores Dan Kinney and Michelle Eifu.

Whitman's EBV Expands Nationwide

By now, we hope you have heard of Whitman's unique program, the Entrepreneurship Bootcamp for Veterans with Disabilities, launched in 2007. With tremendous support from private giving, the Whitman School is now expanding the reach of this program by launching a nationwide partnership with UCLA Anderson School of Management, Mays Business School at Texas A&M University and Florida State University’s College of Business. From May-August 2008, the national EBV will offer cutting-edge training in entrepreneurship and small business management to veterans with disabilities. This consortium represents one of the first, significant partnerships since WWII among some of the country’s most prestigious business schools focused specifically on opening the doors of America’s colleges and universities to veterans motivated by business ownership. We are very proud that the EBV is part of the Whitman School.
