Syracuse University
"I realized that if a veteran didn't go to college as soon as he came back, he'd never have another chance. It was now or never. Now was not the time to shut the doors." These were the words of Syracuse University Chancellor William Pearson Tully in 1946. Following World War II, Chancellor Tully recognized the need to
help veterans advance themselves in the face of their sacrifice for our nation. Thus began a now long established tradition at Syracuse University of educating military veterans. Syracuse University puts bold ideas in motion through Scholarship in Action-a vigorous pursuit of knowledge matched with the ability to make a difference in the world. This belief in Scholarship in Action illustrates Syracuse University's drive, capacity, and commitment to convert what is learned in the classroom and laboratory into practical use for the public good.
The Whitman School of Management
One of the nation's oldest business schools but also one of the most innovative, Syracuse University's Whitman School of Management has continually been a maverick in redefining graduate business
education for managers-making strategic shifts in its MBA curricula and promoting firsthand experiences that give our students the most dynamic programs of study possible. Named for trailblazing financier Martin J. Whitman (class of '49), the Whitman School is proud to nurture graduates who-like Whitman himself-mix a shirtsleeves work ethic and entrepreneurial mind-set with high integrity, exceptional business acumen, social conscience, and a lifelong commitment to mentoring and learning.
The Program in Entrepreneurship & Emerging Enterprises
Recently ranked by Entrepreneurship Magazine and the Princeton Review as the #1 entrepreneurship program in the United States, the expertise and training of the entrepreneurship faculty at Whitman is unmatched. The Entrepreneurship and Emerging Enterprises (EEE) Program at Syracuse includes 18 faculty members and twenty-five courses, and currently serves over 1200 students a year. Syracuse is the only university in the country with an academic Department of Entrepreneurship and a Center for Entrepreneurship. Together, the two are strongly committed to innovative engagement with the entrepreneurial community.
The Burton Blatt Institute
Collaborating with the Whitman School of Management, and infusing the core disability-related content, is the Burton Blatt Institute. The Burton Blatt Institute (BBI), located at Syracuse University, is building the premier organization to advance civic, economic, and social participation of persons with disabilities in a global
society by creating a collaborative environment-with entrepreneurial innovation and best business practices-to foster public-private dialogue, and create the capacity to transform policy, systems, and people through inclusive education, the workforce, and communities.
