She teaches a variety of retail courses including Buying and Planning, Electronic Retailing & Marketing, Visual Merchandising, and Consumer Behavior.

Professor Cushman conducts research that examines the needs of retail industry employers. Her research focuses on employee satisfaction and retention as well as preparing new college graduates for success in the industry. She most recently authored an instructional text of mathematics for retail buying, and her research appears in journals such as the Journal of Fashion Marketing and Management, Customer Relationship Management, and Journal of Shopping Center Research. She has served on the editorial boards of two professional journals.
