Undergraduate

First- and second-year undergraduate students live in Syracuse University housing, with housing for transfer students on a first-come, first-served basis. The Whitman School also participates in the Creativity, Innovation, and Entrepreneurship Learning Community (CIE), which encourages students to focus on creativity and innovation, with a lifestyle perspective on entrepreneurial approaches within all academic disciplines. The community emphasizes the need for imagination in commercial, non-commercial, non-profit, and public sector contexts. CIE students live and learn together in a residential environment that is an "idea laboratory." CIE is open to all SU and ESF students. 6. Safety at Syracuse University and the Whitman School

Syracuse University and the Whitman School consistently and appropriately maintains a safe learning environment for all our students. In partnership with the SU’s Department of Public Safety, the Whitman School takes pride in insuring students’ safety. The Whitman building is only accessible after-hours by swiping an SU identification card. Additionally, public safety officers patrol the building several times a night, and security cameras monitor some of the entrances. 

The Department of Public Safety at Syracuse University offers many services to students to secure their safety in and around campus. 

  • A walking escort service is available to University students, faculty, and staff members from University buildings to residence halls or parking facilities.
  • The Department of Public Safety has designated a patrol unit to respond to incidents involving Syracuse University students that occur in University area.
  • Shuttle service provides transportation from the Syracuse University campus to the University Hill homes of SU students, faculty and staff. The shuttle service operates daily from 8:15 p.m. to 3:30 a.m.
