Whitman mourns passing of Jeffrey Barnes, 51


barnesThe Whitman family mourns the passing of longtime Syracuse University custodial supervisor Jeffery S. Barnes. Barnes, 51, passed away Thursday, March 21, 2013 at his home in Syracuse, surrounded by his family. He was born August 2, 1961 in Syracuse, the son of Francis and Elizabeth Parry Barnes. He graduated from local schools and married Judith Fricke. Barnes worked as the acting custodial supervisor at Syracuse University for 11 years before he became ill. He enjoyed boating, camping and fishing, as well as spending time with his family.

Barnes is survived by his wife Judith, his father Francis of Syracuse, a stepdaughter Arlene (David) Evans of Central Square, grandchildren Nicolette Bezner, David J., Jacob and Christian, two brothers Michael and Anthony of Syracuse, four sisters Linda (Edward) Schultz of Central Square, Carlene (James) Welch of Brewerton, Frances (John) Roch of Syracuse, Marion (Paul) Cleveland of Syracuse, Several nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his mother, Elizabeth, and a brother, Christopher.

Calling hours were held March 27 at the Mallory Wesleyan Church in Mallory, followed by services officiated by Pastor Greg Stein. Internment will be at the Pine Grove Cemetery, Mallory at a later date. Contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.
