Steven W. Barnes

Mr. Barnes is a Managing Director at Bain Capital, and has been associated with the firm since 1988 where he held senior operating roles of several Bain Capital portfolio companies. These include Dade Behring, Inc., President of Executone Business Systems, Inc., and President of Holson Burnes Group, Inc. Prior to joining Bain Capital, Mr. Barnes held several senior management positions in the Mergers & Acquisitions Support Group of PriceWaterhouseCoopers.
Mr. Barnes has been recognized for professional accomplishments which include serving as a member of the executive Committee of the New England Young President's Organization, a networking organization that connects great business leaders and trusted mentors, with young business leaders of the world. In 1995, Inc. Magazine and Ernst & Young named Mr. Barnes one of the top turnaround entrepreneurs in the U.S. for his turnaround/sale of Holson Burnes Group, a $150M public consumer products company. In addition, Crain's Chicago Magazine named Mr. Barnes to its annual list of the Top 40 Under 40, which highlights Chicago area leaders under the age of forty who are considered to be among the best and the brightest in the Chicago business community.
Mr. Barnes has many philanthropic interests which include serving as a member with the Board of Overseers for the Children's Hospital in Boston, the United Way of Massachusetts Bay & Merrimack Valley, and the Make-A-Wish Foundation. He is also member of City Year in Boston, where he helps young people of all backgrounds by giving them his knowledge and skills to help them create their own opportunities in the world.
Mr. Barnes received a BS from Syracuse University in 1982 and is a Certified Public Accountant. He also serves as a Syracuse University trustee, and as a long-term member of the Whitman Advisory Council of the Whitman School of Management.
