Wickham Named as 2012 Women in Business Champion by U.S. Small Business Administration

Lindsay Wickham, events and communications manager for the Falcone Center for Entrepreneurship at Syracuse University’s Martin J. Whitman School of Management, received the Women in Business Champion of the Year award from the Syracuse district office of the U.S. Small Business Administration. Wickham received the award during the 14th annual Small Business Excellence Awards luncheon held May 4 at Doubletree Hotel in Syracuse.

Wickham is the events manager for the Women Igniting the Spirit of Entrepreneurship (WISE) Symposium, an annual event for women in business that features high-profile keynote speakers, breakout sessions on cutting-edge business topics, and a small-business expo. Wickham has significantly raised the profile of the event, which will enter its 11th year, through guerrilla marketing campaigns and the creation of a social media presence. Since she began managing the event in 2007, the symposium has grown from 700 to 1,000 attendees.

In addition, Wickham is also managing editor of WISE Magazine, an annual publication that serves as a resource for women in business.

“So well-deserving of this award, Lindsay is truly a leader in the women’s business movement in Central New York. She works non-stop, aware of every detail, planning and executing not only the largest event of its kind in the area but many other gatherings for area entrepreneurs. Lindsay has helped more women in business than she will ever know,” says Joanne Lenweaver, director of the WISE Women’s Business Center and author of Wickham’s award nomination.

“I am so honored to be receiving the Syracuse Women in Business Champion award,” says Wickham. “Seeing these amazing women in business making their dreams come true is the best part of my job. I am always looking forward to planning and holding the next event so I can keep that entrepreneurial spirit vibrant year-round in the CNY women’s entrepreneurial community.”

Before joining the Falcone Center in 2007, Wickham worked at Cazenovia College and Bristol-Myers Squibb.

The SBA will celebrate National Small Business Week May 20-26, 2012.  This year marks the agency’s 59th anniversary and the 49th annual proclamation of Small Business Week.
