Whitman names semi-annual Capstone Competition winners
Every Whitman senior participates in the Capstone experience—an experiential program that brings all of the elements of the Whitman education together in the context of an original business concept that students conceive and develop as a viable, sustainable, and truly innovative new venture. The top teams earn the opportunity to represent Whitman at national business plan competitions.
First place and a $500 prize was awarded to blueU, mentored by Assistant Professor of Entrepreneurial Practice John Torrens and consisting of team members Morgan Domershick, Alyssa Echanique, Lauren Glanzberg, Yuna Yi and Michael Yormark. “In the beginning, I don’t think any of us even considered that blueU would bring us past the elevator pitch,” noted Yormark, blueU team CEO. “But, after countless hours of rigorous work, invaluable guidance from Professor Torrens and an unprecedented synergy with our team, we emerged victorious.”
Second place and a $300 prize was awarded to Grounded, also coached by Torrens and consisting of team members Corey Gibson, Sha Goode, Camellia Loojune, Jenna Maldiner and Brian Spitler.
Third place and a $200 prize was awarded to Regardog, mentored by Assistant Professor of Entrepreneurship Alejandro Amezcua and consisting of team members Michael Rainbow, Merissa Basens, Kevin Prise and Oleksandra Korotchuk.
