Congratulations on choosing Whitman!

We at Whitman Technology Services are excited to share with you the technology services and support that are available exclusively to our students. 

Whitman prides itself on state of the art technology for our students. The Whitman student technology fee, included in your tuition, supports the constantly changing technological needs of students in the Whitman curriculum, and the services provided by the Whitman Student Technology Center. The Student Technology Center (STC), manned by our Coordinator of Student Technology Services and a crew of student computer consultants, provides Whitman students with a vast array of technology support.

The STC offers Whitman Students support not only for the specialized applications that are used in the curriculum (like the Capsim and finance simulation software) but also provides for:

  • A personal copy of Microsoft Windows and other Microsoft software titles* at no additional cost to students (licensing and access Information will be made available via email after students make their deposit)
  • Microsoft Excel Training and Certification*
  • In-house maintenance and repair for computing devices including laptops, tablets, and phones*
  • In-house Warranty repair services for Dell computers
  • No-charge student equipment rentals*
  • Discounted student printing*
  • Technology-enhanced team rooms*
  • Fax and scan-to-email services*
  • Discounts on many different software titles through OnTheHub.*
  • Remote access to software required for the curriculum via RemoteApp
  • Videoconferencing services
  • Video recording services*

The Whitman Student Technology Center (located at Whitman 210C) is one of our busiest support centers. In a typical academic year the center hands out over 20,000 equipment loans, maintains and repairs many student computing devices (phones and tablets included), and manages 12 printers and 5 different student labs. Additionally, the Whitman Student Technology Center is capable of providing warranty support for Dell computers at no additional cost. **

Whitman Technology Services listens and responds to student needs. In 2013, the center upgraded the undergraduate computing lab with new touchscreen all-in-one computers, expanded support for students using Mac computers including in-house warranty service, undertook a comprehensive project to upgrade the technology in the classrooms and team rooms, including the provision of up to 90 laptops delivered to classrooms for in-class use.

Please note that while we make every effort to support Macs, Windows is still the standard in the corporate world and is required by many classes in our curriculum, leading us to strongly recommend that students bring a Windows-based laptop.
