Chairman, Peckar & Abramson

Chairman of Peckar & Abramson, the largest construction law practice in the United States, since 2007. Charney blends a deep understanding of the construction industry together with legal and strategic acumen in representing leading industry associations, contractors and developers. He has been recognized as one of the nation's premier construction lawyers regarding all manner of infrastructure projects, practicing through offices across the country and internationally.

His career began with Turner Construction Company in 1981, after which he joined Peckar & Abramson in 1990. During nearly a decade with Turner, he served in several operational roles, including field, cost, scheduling, and litigation and claims management, before serving as Eastern Division Counsel.

Charney also holds a B.S. in Accounting with a concentration in construction from Syracuse University. As an evening student after undergraduate studies, Charney earned his law degree from Seton Hall University and an M.S. from the School of Civil Engineering at NJIT.

Charney is Founding Advisor of the Syracuse University Infrastructure Institute and serves on the Whitman and Real Estate Advisory Councils. In 2018, he joined the faculty of Columbia University as an Adjunct Professor in both the College of Engineering and College of Law.
