John Couri '63 (A&S), H'08

Couri Foundation

John Couri is president of the Couri Foundation, Inc., Founder Hall Foundation, Inc. and the Hammond Street Senior Center Foundation, Inc. In 1972, he was one of the founders of IDF Services, Inc., serving as president from 1978 until 1987. He was a co-founder of Duty Free International, Inc. and served as president and CEO until 1993, chairman of the board until 1994 and consultant to the company until 1999.

He received a B.A. in economics and business administration from Syracuse University in 1963. Couri was the chairman of the Board of Trustees of Syracuse University from 2004 to 2008 and continues as a life board member. In 1993, Syracuse University awarded Couri the George Arents Pioneer Medal for Excellence in Business.

Couri serves on several corporate advisory and local non-profit boards. He was a member of the Listed Company Advisory Board of the New York Stock Exchange and the Board of Directors of the Datahr Rehabilitation Institute (now Abilities Beyond Disabilities), serving as chairman from 1997 to 2000.
