Joel Shapiro '59

Bartmon, Shapiro & Associates, Inc.

Joel A. Shapiro is the president of Bartman, Shapiro & Associates, Inc., an insurance brokerage firm. He earned the Chartered Life Underwriter (CLU) designation in 1965, the Chartered Financial Consultant (CHFC) designation in 1984 and earned a master of science in financial services (MSFS) degree in 1997.

Shapiro is a member of the American College Endowment Foundation Board and a member of the Association of Advanced Life Underwriters. He has served as president of both the New York City and New York State Life Underwriters Associations and has also served as chairman of the Federal Law & Legislation Committee of National Association of Insurance and Financial Advisors where he has testified before the U.S. Congress on many occasions.

Shapiro also is an active member of the Yale Club Insurance Group, one of the oldest and most prestigious insurance study groups in the country; he was the group's chairperson for five years. He also has been president of the Executive Committee of the Life Insurance Committee for Social Responsibility.
