Susan Wright joined the Syracuse University faculty on a part-time basis in the Fall 2015. She has taught undergraduate courses in both accounting and finance. She has published several academic papers in both discipline specific topics and instructional cases in financial management and analysis. She has presented her research at several conferences and reviewed manuscripts for journal publication. She earned a PhD in Management, Finance from Carleton University in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada in 2011. Her dissertation investigates competitive changes in security markets caused by new regulations imposed by the SEC. She is a Certified Managerial Accountant (CMA) and has earned both her Master of Business Administration (1995) and her Bachelor of Science (1986) degrees with majors in accounting and economics at Clarkson University. She has passed all four sections of the CPA exam (BEC, FAR, AUD, REG) and is currently completing the experience requirements for certification. Research interests include financial regulation, financial statement analysis and valuation models, auditing practices for high risk clients and PCAOB activities, ethics in the accounting practice and the profession, and instructional effectiveness and pedagogy. She has worked in both the private and the public sectors. In the private sector, she worked for United Technologies Carrier Corporation where she played an instrumental role in restructuring domestic accounts receivable operations improving collections and customer relationships. In the public sector, she worked for the County of St. Lawrence as Deputy County Treasurer and County Accountant. She also worked in higher education in professional positions including sponsored programs and graduate program administration. She has first-hand experience in managing the challenges of running a family owned business. She is currently a part-time staff accountant at Burdick and Pearson, CPAs, in Oswego, NY. She is earning the necessary attestation and taxation hours necessary to meet the experience requirements to qualify for the CPA license in New York State. Recent academic experiences include the completion of the SUNY Teaching & Learning Certificate; an advanced curriculum for teaching effectiveness at the college level. Recent teaching experience includes both accounting and finance courses to undergraduate and graduate students, online and on campus. She was awarded the Professor of the Year Award by the students in the Clarkson graduate program and was formally recognized by Senator Patty Ritchie for contributions to improving the quality of education in the State of New York. Born and raised in upstate New York on the St. Lawrence River, she has a great appreciation for the outdoors. She enjoys boating, running, yoga, and walking the beaches of N.C. Her musical endeavors include singing soprano, playing the flute and the piano. She currently resides in Oswego with her husband, two teen-age boys, and the family pets.
