Ravi Dharwadkar is the Laura J. and L. Douglas Meredith Professor of Teaching Excellence, Chair of the Management Department, and Professor of Management at Syracuse University’s Martin J. Whitman School of Management. Professor Dharwadkar is an outstanding researcher and teacher who has been the recipient of numerous awards including Whitman’s Thomas Finucane Award for Exceptional Scholarship, 2002, the inaugural Whitman Research Fellowship (2004-2006), the Teaching Recognition Award of the Meredith Professorship, 2003, the Whitman Teaching Fellowship (2006-2008), Excellence in Graduate Education Faculty Recognition Award, 2007, Syracuse University, and Poets and Quants 2017 Top 40 Undergraduate Professors, among others. Professor Dharwadkar received his Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics from St. Xavier’s College, Mumbai, India, his Master’s degree in Management from XLRI, Jamshedpur, India, and his Ph.D. degree in Management from the University of Cincinnati. Dr. Dharwadkar’s research interests include corporate governance, corporate strategy, and international business. His research articles appear in the Academy of Management Review, Academy of Management Journal, Academy of Management Executive, Strategic Management Journal, Organization Science, Journal of International Business Studies, Journal of Marketing, and Journal of Corporate Finance, among other journals. Dr. Dharwadkar teaches courses in international business, organization theory, and strategy at the undergraduate and graduate levels. Dr. Dharwadkar is serving his third term on the editorial review board of the Academy of Management Journal and served as a member of the Academy of Management Journal’s Best Article Award Committee in 2015. Currently, Dr. Dharwadkar is the co-chairperson of Syracuse University’s Internationalization Council and a member of Syracuse University’s Faculty Salary Pay Review Committee. Prior to joining academia, Professor Dharwadkar worked for Reliance Industries, India's largest private sector company by revenue in 2017.

Dr. Dharwadkar teaches courses in international business, organization theory, and strategy at the undergraduate and graduate levels. He was recently recognized as a Top 40 Undergraduate Professor in the U.S. by Poets and Quants. He has been deeply involved in teaching the undergraduate core international business course (SOM 354, Managing in a Global Setting) and the organization theory Ph.D. seminar (SHR 855, Organization Theory) over the last decade. Dr. Dharwadkar has also enabled his doctoral students to publish articles in Strategic Management Journal (Hadani, corporate political activity and firm performance), Strategic Management Journal (Goranova, institutional ownership), Organization Science (Goranova, Khan, institutional ownership), Strategic Management Journal (Goranova, managerial ownership), Journal of Accounting and Economics (Duellman, board characteristics), Journal of Management Studies (Coombes, boards and entrepreneurship), Business and Society (Hadani, family ownership), Journal of Business Research (Hadani and Goranova, stock options repricing), Journal of Business Research (Khan, institutional ownership), Human Relations (Das: social identity)and Human Resource Management Review (Das: stock options) and received numerous awards for his co-authored research (Das: Best International Paper, OB, AOM 2007; Goranova: Distinguished Paper, BPS, AOM 2008; Mullins: Bill Nobles Fellowship, Rutgers University, 2011; Arora: Finalist, Outstanding Dissertation Award, BPS, AOM 2012, and Shi: Best Paper Award, American Accounting Association (MW), 2013).
