Prof. Tom Barkley, CFA, FRM, CAIA, obtained an MBA from Thunderbird, the American Graduate School of International Management, in Glendale, AZ. He worked for Enron (Research Group) in Houston, TX, and the Risk Analytics Group at Florida Power & Light in Juno Beach, FL; in both cases, the nature of the work included pricing exotic options and structuring products for use in the energy markets. Following this, he went on to complete the requirements for a PhD in Finance at the University of Florida, in Gainesville, FL. Currently, he is a professor of finance practice, teaching courses and doing research in corporate finance and derivatives, at the Whitman School of Management, Syracuse University, NY; he is also the director of the MS in Finance program there, and member of the Syracuse University Senate serving on the Budget and Fiscal Affairs Committee. Other experience includes retail banking in the UK, teaching high-school mathematics in the Bahamas, and general management of a family-run publishing company.

Professor Barkley's primary research interests are in market microstructure, asset pricing, derivatives, risk management, capital markets, and international finance. He is a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA), a Chartered Alternative Investment Analyst (CAIA), and a Financial Risk Manager (FRM).
