Mentoring Program

We’ve created a mentoring program to allow current students majoring in accounting (or those interested in majoring in accounting) to be matched with alumni in the accounting industry who can be used as mentor for career preparation. Examples of discussion topics include: advice on different careers in accounting, tips on obtaining internships/jobs, or general advice on working after college.

Please note, however, this relationship should focus on advice and counsel, and not be used to solicit employment from the mentor, unless the mentor initiates the discussion.

Should you wish to participate, you need to fill out the application. All completed applications should be provided to John Petosa, professor of accounting practice, who can be contacted at (315) 488-4411.

For more information about the mentoring program, contact Cheryl Timko or Cindy Hand

The Accounting Alumni Council is looking for Alumni willing to mentor current SU students majoring, or interested in majoring in Accounting. If you are interested in participating, please contact Cindy Hand, at

Presentations to Students

Each semester, our Accounting Alumni Council and Accounting Advisory Board speak to students about the field of accounting is to inform them about different careers in accounting and advantages and disadvantages of accounting as a major and general advice about the "working world."

If you have unique experiences in the accounting field and are interested in speaking to Whitman students, contact Marc Ben-Ami at

Social Activities

The Whitman Accounting Alumni Council occasionally organizes informal social activities for alumni to network. The goal is to provide an informal setting where alumni can re-connect while having fun. To date, activities have been organized in New York City. Depending on demand, activities may be organized in other major cities in the future.

On Sunday, Dec. 13, the Syracuse Men’s Basketball Team is heading to Madison Square Garden to take on St. John’s. The Accounting Alumni Council is organizing a block of tickets for accounting alumni and friends/family, followed by a post-game networking happy hour. For information on buying tickets to the game through the Accounting Alumni Council, please contact Brian Schreiner at

The Council will continue to organize get-togethers to watch games at NYC area bars or tickets to games. We are looking into games this upcoming season for football and basketball. We would love for you to join us and your fellow accounting alumni and friends. The details for the ticket prices and purchase process will be e-mailed to the directory. If you are not on the directory, click on Directory link on the Council's homepage.

Be on the lookout for e-mails from the Council for future events.

If you have any ideas for future social events, contact Brian Schreiner at

Lubin House Events

We organize events at Syracuse University's Lubin House in New York City approximately twice each year. The goal of these events is to provide more formal networking opportunities for accounting alumni. Typically, the events are organized in the summer, in order to allow our students interning in the NYC area to attend, as well as in the fall/winter, in order to allow recent alumni to attend.

The next Lubin House event has been scheduled for June 16, 2016. Come join your fellow alumni and catch up with some former SU Professors if you can. So, mark your calendars and let us know if you plan on attending.;

For more information on the Lubin House Events, contact Georgiana Nertea at or Matt Palermo at
