Couri Hatchery Mentors

One of the most unique aspects of the Couri Hatchery is the opportunity to meet with an array of entrepreneurial mentors who donate their time to support student entrepreneurs.

The following is a list of mentors that worked with our student entrepreneurs over the course of the 2015-16 Academic Year:


  • Douglas J. Gorman: Doug is a New York and Delaware Corporate, Banking & Finance attorney. He represents clients with various commercial, corporate and financial matters, including providing advice and counsel on: Business start-up formations and choice of entity; Domestic and international commercial contracts; Financing transactions and credit facilities; Recapitalizations; and more.
  • John Boger: John is a partner at Heslin Rothenberg Farley & Mesiti who specializes in intellectual property law.
  • David Reed: David is President at Reed CNY Business Law, P.C. and specializes in supporting international students navigate the incorporation process and options when launching a company in the U.S.


  • Matt Read: Currently an Independent Marketing & Communications Consultant, Matt is a curious, dedicated and passionate marketing professional who believes in building measurable and meaningful relationships between brands and consumers. Creativity, flexibility and a willingness to explore are three important areas he focuses on to help hone my craft and learn new ways to help increase knowledge and connections for current and potential clients.
  • John Timmerman: Currently CEO of Good Monster, a creative digital marketing agency that helps businesses develop profitable strategies to establish deeper-rooted, longer-lasting relationships with their audiences. He works with businesses to build brand equity by helping them gain the attention of their customers and the impact in their markets. His agency specializes in developing never ending customer development cycles using the most powerful platforms on the internet.
  • John Hunt: With a customer service career that spans Fortune 500 companies specializing in finance and electronic media to nonprofit organizations and neighborhood stores, John has worked with many diverse clientele. John has advised many niche businesses in the Central New York area helping maximize budgets for more efficient and effective growth. This Syracuse “40 Under 40” award winner always has the best interest of the client and community in mind. Specialties:Copywriting, customer service, sales, branding, event marketing, media purchasing, marketing planning and strategy


  • Dennis Taussig: has been a strategic marketing, advertising and communications design consultant for over 30 years serving businesses of all sizes from New York to Seattle and Great Britain to China. Whether it’s a start-up or an established company, Dennis utilizes his communications design background to assist new and existing businesses in attracting, inspiring and motivating both external and internal customers. Whether driving sales or building a brand, Dennis attacks every challenge with a strategic process utilizing creativity, market research and problem-solving to develop meaningful solutions that create long-lasting, emotional connections. Dennis is also an entrepreneur who has started 5 businesses in the past 12 years ranging from AfterShokz, a high tech bone conduction headphone company, to Salon Showroom, a national distributor of furniture for beauty salons and barbershops.
  • Tom Nerviano: A seasoned human resource executive with strong business acumen. He is a trusted advisor who contributes to strategy development and is able to uncomplicate issues and brings pragmatic adn effective solutions. A genuine and authentic leader who believes in employee engagement and empowerment. His areas of expertise include: HR business patnering, employee relations, labor relations, organizational leadership, organizational development, diversity, employee communications and staffing/contingent labor.


  • Pamela Miller: Currently the Vice President/Business Relationship Manager and Business Banking for J.P. Morgan Chase Bank in Syracuse. She supports student entrepreneurs in answering questions about finance and banking services for startups.


  • Jason Banuski: Currently President at HR One Consulting, Inc., hei has extensive experience as a consultant for employers of all sizes. His responsibilities at HR One include analysis of human resource best practices; wage and salary administration; development of employee handbooks, performance appraisal systems, job descriptions; one-on-one mentorship and team training. Mr. Banuski has been nationally certified as a Professional in Human Resources by the Society of Human Resource Management. As a Human Resources Consultant, he has extensive experience in the areas of human resource planning, employee relations, performance management, employment regulation compliance, benefit plan design, recruitment and training.


  • Julian King & team members of sprk collective: a design consultancy whose focused on bring design and innovation principles to new and budding businesses and startups. We believe that everyone is capable of great ideas and our goal is to help refine these concepts to make sure they reach their maximum potential. Our team is comprised of four industrial and interaction and designers and one programmer, our skill sets are diverse enough for us to help with pretty much any design challenge you bring to us be it product, graphic, interface, or experience.
