Project Management Prep Courses

All classes are via Zoom from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM. Participants must attend all classes.

COURSE: This course was designed to develop a participant’s project management skills. All students will learn what it takes to be a great project manager, the project management process and tools needed to run a successful project. This class will also prepare students for the Syracuse University Project Management Certification (SUPMC).

MAJOR LEARNING OBJECTIVES:

  • Understand the elements of project management
  • Learn how to determine project scope, costs and schedules
  • Use and access project management templates
  • Discuss the organization and planning necessary for running a successful project
  • Learn how to lead a project management team
  • Learn how to organize and staff a project
  • Develop people skills needed to run a project
  • Meet the SUPMC Requirement of 24 hours of classroom training and prepare for the exam
  • Take the certification test – pass and receive the designation - CProjMgrSU
  • Have fun and learn how to be a better Project Manager

Class discussions will be based on case situations and articles from various industries with a focus on academia/office environments. This class will include hands-on work with cost estimation, project scheduling and resource allocation.

The CProjMgrSU™ Designation


The CProjMgrSU Designation is used to distinguish professionals who have met or exceeded all of the requirements of the Certificate in Project Management program set forth by Syracuse University (see below). Individuals who successfully complete this program and receive a Project Management Certificate from the University will be entitled to use the CProjMgrSU Designation to demonstrate an expertise in project management along with a comprehension of many techniques which improve project outcomes.

The CProjMgrSU Designation Standards:

  • Attended a project management prep course from the Whitman School of Management or attended a 40-hour project management course from an accredited University/College or approved training center
  • Have at least 40 hours of project management experience
  • Passed a 100 question exam on Project Management

About the Certification Exam

Who is this certification for?

This certification is for project management professionals who are looking to verify their expertise in project management. Certifications are a great way to invest in your career and it shows employers that a third party expert has validated your subject matter knowledge.

What are the requirements?

The requirements for this certification are taking a Whitman Project Management prep class or a 40-hour project management course from an accredited University/College or approved training center and passing a 100 question open book online exam (which you can take at your convenience).

What does the test entail?

The exam will test your knowledge of project management. Some topics covered on the exam are: network diagrams, determining critical paths, crashing projects, calculating earned value management and project management terms and definitions (see outline for complete topic coverage). We strongly recommend that you purchase the PMBOK (Project Management Body of Knowledge) sixth edition to prepare for the exam.

What do you get by taking this exam?

Upon completion of the application and passing the exam you will receive a Syracuse University Project Management Certificate and become certified in Project Management through Syracuse University.

How much does this exam cost?
