Whitman GSO Case Competition 2017

April 7-8, 2017 - Martin J. Whitman School of Management at Syracuse University

MBA and MS students stepped into a real life, time-sensitive scenario demanding analytical and creative decision-making by participating in a case competition at Syracuse University's Martin J. Whitman School of Management. The competition brought together 14 student teams from six universities.

Students were given a current "live case" of a small business to create a comprehensive growth strategy solution with supporting analytical evidence. Each team presented their solution to a panel of corporate and academic judges. Prize money was awarded to winning teams and outstanding individual presenters.

Prizes Awarded:

1st Place: $5,000

Brendan McLaughlin, Alex Mcleod and Lindsay Macaluso of the University at Buffalo.  

2nd Place: $3,000

Mark Wilson, Thomas Hurd, Sean Deacon and Owen Ortolani of the University at Buffalo. 

3rd Place: $2,000

Adam Westermann, Jacklyn Maher, Nate Haynes and Latoray Wood of the Whitman School.

The Best Presenters: Adam Westermann and Priyanka Mukherjee of the Whitman School. 

The Best Responders: Alex Mcleod and Owen Ortolani of the University at Buffalo. 

Prior to the weekend of April 7-8, students were given the live case. The students worked in their teams to provide a two-page summary of their growth strategy for the company given. The top teams were announced and invited to travel to the Whitman School to present their strategy.

The teams attended a networking dinner Friday, April 7 with all teams competing, distinguished faculty, staff and professionals.

Saturday, April 8 the preliminary rounds of presentations began. Each team delivered their growth strategy to a panel of distinguished judges for up to 15 minutes. The teams will be evaluated on their strategy.
