Newhouse / Whitman Dual Program
One of the more popular and complementary choices in dual majors is the joint Whitman/S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications degree. In today’s global, fast-paced and complex business environment, organizations need their future leaders to have a mix of business and communication skills and knowledge. To acquire this combination, you may elect to enroll in the dual degree program with Whitman and Newhouse. Through this powerful dual program, you’ll gain a better understanding of the interconnectedness of business and communications. The program will equip you with the essential skills necessary to become an effective business leader and communicator, giving you an edge in a competitive job market.
You may apply directly to the dual program as an incoming first-year student when applying to Syracuse University or you can apply to add the dual program later as an enrolled Syracuse University student. You must select at least one major from the Whitman School and one from the Newhouse School.

Students must fulfill the degree requirements for both schools and complete a minimum of 151 credits. With AP and/ or transfer credit, students typically still graduate in four years. After completing the program, students receive a Bachelor’s degree (one diploma) awarded by both schools. The Whitman School is the home college for dually enrolled students.

When it’s time to go before potential employers, Whitman’s dedicated Career Center team will provide a full spectrum of exploration, preparation and placement services to help distinguish you from your peers in the marketplace. Graduates of the dual program meet with much success in the job market due to the breadth and depth of knowledge and skills they have gained. Corporate partners, including Horizon Media, Crispin Porter + Bogusky, Viacom and Dick’s Sporting Goods, regularly recruit Whitman/Newhouse graduates to make an immediate and meaningful impact within their organizations.
